A Proud Family Legacy

For 5 Generations

When your name is on the line, everything down to the last detail has to be right. That’s why since 1904 – through five generations – there has been family deeply involved in everything from the kitchens and factory floor to the decisions that run the company. And the Fromm and Nieman families go back in marriage and business together even further – to the 1880s.

Today, Tom, Kathy, Bryan, and Dan Nieman proudly represent the fourth and fifth generations of a family business that’s still focused on new and better ways to add health and happiness to the next generation of pets and pet families everywhere.

The home Joachim Nieman built on Pigeon Creek in Ozaukee County, WI in the 1850s

Premium Ingredients

Our farming roots in Wisconsin started on our pioneer farm in 1852 and are still active to this day. In that time, we’ve learned a great deal about the diligence and dedication it takes to grow and raise foods worthy of the family table. All of our recipes require high quality ingredients, so our suppliers are trusted, carefully selected, and held to the same high standards we demand of ourselves. The reason is simple: Because in the end, like all farmers, we’re feeding family.

  • High Quality Meat & Fish
  • Wisconsin Cheese
  • Pre and Probiotics
  • Farm Fresh Produce
  • Whole grains

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Fromm Family pet food produced?

We own and operate two dry food and treat manufacturing facilities in our home state of Wisconsin — located in Mequon and Columbus, as well as wet food cannery, located in Eden, Wisconsin. Every bag and can of Fromm dog and cat food originates from one of these facilities.

Owning and operating our plants allows us to have full control over the quality and safety of the products we produce. This encompasses everything including, sanitation and pest control, facility maintenance, employee training, sourcing of ingredients, in-house lab analysis, preparation of meat and produce, formulation and blending, processing, packaging, warehousing and distribution.

We are also subjected to random and periodic inspections performed by outside agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

Who is Fromm Family Foods owned by?

Fromm Family Pet Food is proudly family owned-and-operated.  Today, Tom, Kathy, Bryan, and Dan Nieman proudly represent the fourth and fifth generations of a family business that’s still focused on new and better ways to add health and happiness to the next generation of pets and pet families everywhere.

Since the company's humble beginnings in 1904, there has been family deeply involved in everything from the kitchens and factory floor to the decisions that run the company.

Not only are we a family-owned company, we also own and run three of our own facilities right here in Wisconsin. It gives us total control of the process and allows us to maintain our own exceptional standards of quality and safety. That means every bag and can of our cat and dog food comes from a place where we control every aspect of the process, and can guarantee a food that is prepared with extraordinary care.

Can I feed a combination of wet and dry food to my pet?

Yes, many pets do well eating both dry and wet food. This combination can work quite well for balancing cost-effectiveness, palatability, and water intake.

However, it’s important to do a bit of planning so your dog or cat doesn’t gain weight due to a larger quantity of food.

If your pup or kitty is currently eating dry kibbles, start by simply looking at the amount of wet food you plan to feed and subtracting a similar volume of dry food. That way, the total daily food intake is approximately the same. However, there may be some variation due to different calorie density of each food, so it’s important to monitor your pet for weight gain or loss and adjust their food intake accordingly.

For a more exact feeding guideline, you can contact one of our knowledgeable team members at Fromm. We are happy to walk you through the feeding recommendations on both foods and let you know how much of each recipe to give your pet.

Then, you may add the wet food separately from kibbles, or use it as a topper or mixed together with dry food. If you choose to top or mix, remember that dry food can’t be left out all day once wet food is added—any uneaten portion should be thrown out after 1-2 hours.

How are Weight Management recipes different?

Weight management pet foods are specifically designed to prevent excessive calorie intake, thereby helping a pet to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Obesity is one of the most common and preventable ailments in pets in North America. Since obesity can lead to dog and cat health problems like diabetes, arthritis, heart and lung conditions, certain cancers, and more, it’s important to keep your pet at a healthy weight.

If your dog or cat struggles with weight gain or obesity, a weight management pet food could be much better for them than their regular diet. Here’s why…

Decreasing the proportion of a regular pet food (a food not specifically created for weight management) could leave your dog or cat feeling hungry. Also, even though decreasing your pet’s food intake would reduce the number of calories they consume, dramatically decreasing the portion for an extended period of time could result in malnourishment. In addition to fewer calories, your dog or cat would receive less than their daily requirement of essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

Weight management foods help prevent these issues because they’re formulated with the right proportion of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, in a recipe that’s less calorie dense.

That way, your pet will get all the nutrients they need, and they will feel fuller with their meals than they would with a more restrictive “diet.”

Fromm Weight Management and Healthy Weight recipes were developed using these principles. These specialty pet food formulations also contain:

  • Lean (but tasty) nutrient-rich turkey liver or chicken for high quality protein.
  • Complex carbohydrates to aid in appetite control.
  • L-carnitine to help your pet utilize more fat as energy and maintain lean muscle mass.

Of course, it’s possible to overfeed any diet, even a Weight Management formulation. Be sure to check the feeding recommendations on the packaging, which are based on your pet’s weight.
