Knoxville's Largest Fresh and Raw Dog & Cat Food Selection

If you've been searching for raw dog food in Knoxville, you've probably noticed there's more than one kind. Raw comes frozen and freeze-dried, as a full meal or a topper, and even mixed into kibble. This guide explains what each format is and who it works best for, so you know what to ask for when you walk in.

If you're brand new to raw feeding and want the basics first, start with Raw Feeding 101. It covers what raw food is, how to handle it safely, and a week-by-week transition plan.

Frozen Raw

What it is: Complete raw meals made from meat, organ, and bone, frozen to keep them fresh. You thaw them in the refrigerator and serve.

Best for: Dogs eating raw as their full diet, and owners who have freezer space and want the least-processed option.

Brands we carry: Primal Pet Foods, Steve's Real Food, OC Raw, Green Juju, Small Batch Pet, Blue Ridge Beef, Solutions, Tuckers, and Stella & Chewy's. We have access to many more brands and are able to special order if one of these don't meet your pets needs.

Good to know: Thaw in the fridge, not on the counter. Once food has thawed, don't refreeze it. Wash bowls and your hands after feeding, the same way you would after handling raw meat in your own kitchen.

Freeze-Dried Raw

What it is: Raw food with the moisture removed, so it's shelf-stable and doesn't need a freezer. You can feed it dry or add water to rehydrate it.

Best for: Smaller dogs, travel, households with limited freezer space, and owners who want to use raw as a topper.

Brands we carry: Primal Pet Foods, Dr. Martys, Simple Food Project, Medicus, Stella & Chewy's, Steve's Real Food, Green Juju, Zignature, OC Raw, Small Batch Pet, Northwest Naturals, Orijen, and Open Farm, all make freeze-dried formulas.

Good to know: Freeze-dried costs more per pound than frozen because the water has been removed. It goes further than it looks, though. Ask us to help you figure out the daily amount for your dog's weight.

Raw Toppers and Raw-Coated Kibble

What it is: A small amount of raw added to your dog's current food. You can add it yourself, or buy a kibble that already includes freeze-dried raw pieces.

Best for: Picky eaters, owners who want to try raw without switching completely, and anyone working within a budget.

Options we carry: Orijen Wild Reserve and Open Farm Raw Mix combines kibble with freeze-dried raw pieces and starts at $27.99. Any of the freeze-dried brands above also work as a topper.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Want to go fully raw and have freezer space? Start with frozen.
  • Small dog, tight on freezer space, or traveling? Freeze-dried.
  • Just want to try it, or have a picky eater? Start with a topper.

There's no single right answer, and plenty of dogs do best with a mix. Your dog's age, size, activity level, and any health issues all matter. If your dog has a medical condition, talk with your veterinarian before changing their diet.
